The Geffrye is a museum and gardens situated in Shoreditch, East London, in the former almshouses of the Ironmongers’ Company. With a vision to inspire everyone to explore the meaning of home. The museum is currently closed until Spring 2020 for our transformational development - Unlocking the Geffrye. But, do not worry, there are still lots of ways to be involved.
The volunteer community is an important part of this vision, developing reciprocal relationships with members of the community to ensure that the museum offers useful and meaningful programs and events to as wide a range of people as possible.
Geffrye Makers is a platform that makes it easier for volunteers, both current and new, to find out how they can get involved and for our volunteer community to communicate with each other. We understand that everyone has different interests, availability and skills so we will now be offering opportunities that you can do in a few minutes, in a few hours, a day or more regularly. Some of the areas where our volunteers have supported the museum include:
- Children’s holiday activities, family days and events
- Marketing and social media
- Administrative projects and tasks
- Photography and creative writing
- Guiding groups in our restored almshouse
- Supporting our gardening team

We welcome you to join our volunteer community!
We are excited about this platform for communicating with volunteers, however as this is new, there may be some teething problems. Please do let us know if you have any ideas for any improvements, you can drop us a line by clicking here.
